This session will review regulatory changes impacting higher education. We will review changes to the Uniform Guidance, insights from the Department of Education, and provide single audit insights.

1:10 p.m. – 2 p.m.: A Conversation About Fraud

Participants will learn about key indicators of fraud and will be presented with case studies and examples to further their understanding.

2:10 – 3 p.m.: Cyber Risks and Mitigation Strategies for Higher Education

This session will draw on examples from IT/security audits and case studies from CLA’s forensic incident response services to highlight common issues in design, configuration, and IT processes that could be identified during thorough audits and help mitigate significant problems in the future.

We will examine recent breach case studies and discuss how to mitigate similar risks through a combination of improving alignment with regulatory requirements and standards/framework-based operational discipline.

3:05 p.m. – 3:55 p.m.: How to Effectively Leverage Shared Services

Institutions are increasingly evaluating new service delivery models to help reduce costs and improve compliance. While implementation may be challenging, shared services — when designed and implemented effectively — offer numerous benefits that can outweigh short-term challenges.
